During development a Dyson cylinder vacuum cleaner will be dropped onto a hard floor 5,318 times. It'll run 1,357km on a turntable rig - comparable to being pushed and pulled from Dyson HQ in Malmesbury, UK to Valencia, Spain. The on/off switch is activated 20,000 times. The bin emptying mechanism is opened and shut 2,200 times. And the hose is stretched and flexed 11,000 times. Destructive, endurance, performance and reliability tests are carried out 24 hours a day, seven days a week until our experts are satisfied our machines are tough enough.
